Besides being an all-round awesome track, we especially like the drums on Men with Guns. Johnny Rowe is a superb drummer, so getting a good sound was fairly easy. Unlike most of the tracks on the record, the drums here are tight and close. We recorded the beds (drums and rhythm gutiar) onto analogue tape, as we did with all the songs on this album. The slap-back tape delay effect on the snare was also recorded live during the beds. We timed the delay and repeats, using the studio A-80 tape machine and return rails on the console. This gave us an effect that was rhythmic and modern, yet warm.
